"Observer effect -Kudan-" 2017

In my series Observer Effect, characters from legends and folklore are depicted looking towards the viewer (i.e. acting as an observer).
I created Observer Effect Kudan, which takes inspiration from the kudan, a Japanese yokai, and Shennong, one of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors of Chinese mythology, with the theme of prediction.
Kudan
A yokai born from a cow that is said to be capable of human speech. The kudan dies within a few days of its birth, but during its short life, it will foretell serious events such as poor harvests, epidemics, and war. The predictions of the kudan are said to become inevitably true.
Shennong
An emperor who appears in Chinese mythology and the deity of medicine and agriculture. Except for the head and four limbs, his body is transparent, and thus his internal organs can be clearly seen. It is said that he could identify the organ a poison affected by observing which one turned black following ingestion.
《観察者効果 件》 2017

私が描く「観察者効果」のシリーズでは、伝説や伝承に登場するキャラクターを、こちらを見ている存在(観察者)として描いています。
本作「観察者効果 件」は日本の妖怪「件」と、中国の三皇五帝の一人「神農」から着想を得て「予言」をテーマに制作しました。
件（くだん）
牛から生まれ、人間の言葉を話すとされている日本の妖怪。
生まれて数日で死ぬが、その間に作物の豊凶や流行病、戦争など重大なことに関して様々な予言をし、それは間違いなく起こるとされている。
神農（しんのう）
中国の神話に登場する帝王の一人。医薬と農業を司る神とされている。
体は頭部と四肢を除き透明で、内臓が外からはっきりと見える。
もし毒があれば内臓が黒くなるので、そこから毒が影響を与える部位を見極めたという。
